Confirmed: Loretta Lynch is the new attorney general

After a record 165-day delay, the Senate confirmed Loretta Lynch as the new attorney general on Thursday.

Her wait for the confirmation was equal to the combined wait time for the seven previous attorney general nominees. Lynch's candidacy passed with a 56-43 vote, making her the nation’s 83rd attorney general and first African-American female in the position

President Obama nominated Lynch on Nov. 8, and the Senate Confirmation hearing was held in January but was held up for a variety of political reasons.
