Bernie Sanders expects 100,000 people to attend his house party

Bernie Sanders is throwing a house party for America on Wednesday night, and everyone is invited

In an attempt to capitalize on his grassroots momentum, the Vermont senator and presidential contender is organizing a live stream event of the campaign party in southwest Washington, D.C

The event will be broadcast on BernieSanders.com at 7 p.m. ET and also played at planned mini-rallies in thousands of homes and other locations. The parties are meant to mobilize his supporters and form local campaign groups.

"He will thank supporters and talk about ways they can help build a political revolution" at the event, according to his campaign. Read more...

Man hops zoo fence to pet cougars

A 35-year-old man is being charged with a misdemeanor count of trespassing for hopping a fence at the Columbus Zoo and posting a video of himself petting cougars.

The video shows a man hopping an outer fence at the zoo and petting multiple cougars through another fence. All the while, the man is saying, "Here kitty kitty kitty, good kitty."

A spokesperson for the Delaware County sheriff's office said that Joshua Newell was served a summons to appear in court on July 29 for the incident.

Australian scientists set to receive our closest ever images of Pluto

As NASA's New Horizons spacecraft nears Pluto and its moons Tuesday night, a team of Australian scientists will have a front row seat.

Part of NASA’s Deep Space Network, the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) at Tidbinbilla will be the first place on Earth to hear from the spacecraft as it passes Pluto after nine long years of travel

At 9:49.57 p.m. AEST Tuesday, the craft, which left Earth in 2006, will make its closest pass ever to the dwarf planet. Floating around 12,500 kilometres above the surface, New Horizons will collect measurements and images of Pluto and transmit them back to Earth. Read more...
